Rafting in Voidomatis River / program duration 3 hours

Voidomatis River rises in the Vikos Gorge and follows an impressive waterway, wreathed with age-long plane trees that border its bed and traditional stone bridges. This is one of the most stunning natural environments in Greece. Lush forests, high imposing mountains and deep ravines weaved together with local culture and tradition! A gem, off the beaten path, for active travelers who seek to explore authentic destinations. After breakfast at the hotel, a relaxing rafting descent on the crystal clear waters of Voidomatis river, starting from the bridge of Aristi up to Kleidonia, in the heart of the National Forest of Vikos – Aoos. 

The descent of Voidomatis river is an easy ride, ideal even for beginners. The scenery is very interesting with the deep vegetation and the turquoise waters that are among the clearest in Europe. The boldest of the visitors can enjoy a refreshing swim in the cold river waters with an average temperature of 9οC year around. In the middle of the descent, we will stop at the Agion Anargiron Monastery dating from the 16th century.

Trekking in Vikos Gorge / program duration 6 hours

After early breakfast, we drive to Monodendri where we start our 6 hours trek through Vikos Gorge, which is also the deepest canyon in the world. Along the way your guide will talk to you about the flora and fauna of the area as only in 2016 Vikos Gorge and its surrounding North Pindos National Park have been nominated by UNESCO as a word heritage location. It is accessible from several points, including the gravity-defying cliff-face monastery of Agia Paraskevi at its southern end and the ridge-top village of Vikos at the other.

The landscape of the 20 km long gorge is extremely diverse and is characterized by abrupt changes in altitude. The Vikos Gorge has been carved over millions of years by the Voidomatis River, a tributary of the Aoös River. As it splits the mountain in half, its slopes expose rock formations of limestone and dolomite, dating back to 150 million years . Its vertical cliffs rise up to a height of 1700 meters. Along the way you will enjoy lunch next to the river. Upon reaching Vikos village a van will drive us back to the hotel.
